Is the lady in the top picture riding side saddle?? I didn't know that was a thing for Segways.

It doesn't seem quite as classy without a horse.

In cities, it did create I guess you'd call it a micro industry for touring the city.

I've seen them in a number of Midwestern cities of a population over 75,000

I've seen them in far-flung places, most recently at a dog show. The show was in a large NY State Fairgrounds building, and the Segway was a much better way to cover ground fast than a golf cart would've been. Takes up less room, quiet, and so forth. But no, this technology does not seem to have transformed the world. More of a niche product.

They were set to take off when they first came out until a lot of cities enacted laws against riding them on sidewalks, and I think that pretty much killed it. I've only seen one and that was in an airport.

I would see them occasionally being driven by law enforcement officers at events or landmarks. I haven't seen the general public using them.

Great for mall cops, until you get to the escalator.

I talked to several people when this thing first came available.

Here are the reasons they wouldn't buy it:

1. You always have to stand up.

2. You can't sit down.

3. Most people can't really balance well, that's why most people don't surf, ride skateboards or unicycles.

4. People feel safer on four wheels.

5. People are afraid of falling backwards and cracking their noggins.

6. It's not serious transportation.

7. It looks like one of those battery operated toy cars you buy for your 5 year old.

8. It's too expensive.

9. It looks expensive to fix.

10. I don't want one.
