Graphene and Silly Putty

12/20/2016 1:32 PM

According to a story on National Public Radio (yeah, I know), a new use for Silly Putty was discovered when graphene was mixed with the said putty. It not only became conductive, it changed its resistance with deformation.

A thin membrane was attached to some probes and a power source to determine if it could be used to detect the footsteps of a spider. Reportedly, the spider would not cooperate for some time, but did eventually pace across the membrane. The results were published, but I didn't bother to look them up. I was hoping for a video!

Ahhh, the possibilities! What will they think of next?

Awwl man! I forgot to do a search to see if this was already brought up.

My bad! I was just responding to the previous silliness of the previous graphene entry.

As they used to say on SNL........never mind!

Looks like a clean cut! I don't suppose you coated that blade with graphene?

I dunno about that, looks like that head was severed more by pressure than cutting.

The "computer on the chest and neck of human subjects" sounds mighty uncomfortable. I wonder: can the putty detect signs of a struggle?

Especially, "The Beast", or even an old DEC-20.

Have you seen Ms. Peregrine?

OH SNAP! Was I here before when we were talking about using silly putty with graphene to make shock detectors? Impulse detectors, creep detectors, shrimp salad detectors?

OMG, the beat goes on. People are bored stiff until the next great thing jumps up.

Got down off my horse, and stepped into the shifting sand. Boy, that son-of-a-beast could sun-fish. Those are cowboy ways of cussin' and discussin'.
