Who lost the manual?

Being in the process skid control business, I can say few instruments still have a manual with them - better question would be:"Why didn't you download the manual?"

That's true; and sometimes you get just one sheet of paper, but you have to bring your own magnifying glass.

It's an invitation to phone Krohne and find out.

The data sheet says:

"Long term reliability In addition to a long battery lifetime of up to 15 years, the IFC 070 provides diagnostic information. The IFC 070 has two status outputs for self checking, battery warnings and counter overrun."

My guess is counter overrun, but you might want to contact them:

After a quick search for the manual, and a quick look at the manual, I found that the manual says error code 1 = too much flow during zero cal 2 = totallizer rolled over 8 = DC voltage sensor A over 20% ADC, code 28 Com fail.

It sounds like you have too much initial flow to set the zero point, but I'm just guessing with far too little information from you.

Fall back to the setup you last used where things worked correctly. If the meter works correctly in a known good setup, you can be assured the meter still works, and that you have not damaged it.

Most of the flow meters I use out put a voltage per flow rate and the manual, (there's that word again!) will explain the formula to interpret the voltage as a flow rate. Some of the higher end flow meters output an actual message in RS 232 or 485 output format. The manual <--- will explain how to decode message traffic

Such critical information will be written in the manual. If not there pick up your phone and call the manufacturer.
