Why does CR4 allow Guests to post anonymously?

08/30/2007 3:33 PM

Why does CR4 allow Guests to post anonymously?

Should this policy be changed?

And why do Guests often receive rude replies when they do post?

For the record, I think that Guests *should* be allowed to post anonymously. I reject any unnecessary restrictions on free speech in a public forum. But I ask the first two questions above because I want to hear what CR4 members think. I ask the third question because I have noticed that Guests are often treated badly, as if logged-in members feel outraged that someone would dare to express a dissenting opinion anonymously. Try this experiment for yourself: post some contrary views as anonymous Guest (don't log in), especially in reply to so-called Gurus (who often have over-inflated egos). The results will probably surprise you. I will contribute to this thread both as "svengali" and as "Guest".

LOL - You know it's futile europium ! From now on I shall ignore American spellings suggested by the editor. We use 'program' and 'programme'.

-----

I already ignore American spellings (and everyone else's), but CR4's spell-checker enthusiastically forces me back on track every time. Now if I could only get this friggin' Italics button to work right...

That photo is good - nearly split my sides looking at it. A bit like mermaids made from Skate and stuff. Hows about this one.

I could believe progeria, but the shark with an iffy photo and legs ? I couldn't find any more pictures of that particular shark. Mutations happen, but I'm not convinced by the evidence given.

re: progeria. I just can't help but be biased by the little gray men that so many abductees draw. Could it not be - hang on for the "what if" dialogue - that an improper mix of E.T. DNA is causing some problem with some 'humans'. Such as a recessive physical trait gene is missed and allows this 'disease' to appear. Like a genetic cloaking malfunction. And that exposes the mixing of genetic material as displayed in the progeria sufferer.

Well...................you started it. No, I did. Errr............

This whole thing about how guests, or anyone for that matter, represent themselves is kind of like sorting split peas. you get a majority that are perfectly well siuted for making a fine soup. You get a few that are a bit funky looking but on closer examination will probably cook up well. You get a few that are immature but will blend in if given a chance. You get more than you would think that are old and dries out but will add a rich body. And then you get the rocks and twigs!

Re: Why does CR4 allow Guests to post anonymously?

I read with great interest the over hundred comments on this VERY important subject. It is a tremendous flow of in the depth analysis, i realy was proud to be a participant even if only as a "guest".

I noticed that a lack of politness is present and when some body made a comment on the lack of response of the different guests asking questions he was put at his place with the counsel to consider the world as it is in -on my oppinion - quite rude words. Since we are different -which makes us rich by diversity- it should be understood that what one considers as humoristic comment could be misunderstood by some body else who does not share the same "private jokes" which are diffrent from country to country. Although the language is the same a previous question brought the result that we are spread spread all over the whole world.

I agree that it would be better to have a feed back from the person who got his questions answered if it helped or not. If questions are in poor english it is possible to ask for explanations. How many of us do speek the languages of those who put the questions? Tolerance is part of civilisation.

Never the less I would appreciate if in answering the questions the same amount of energy would be spend as in discussing this VERY important subject.

I have the feeling that some times there is a kind of condescendence, a look from above, to the "poor" people asking questions which are "too trivial". Many times the answers are not as at the top as they could and should be.

I am sure the comments to my comment will be aggressive but i presume it had to be said.

By the way how many of us are required to screw a bulb?

You are making the case for why Guest is difficult. Sign-up. Join. Tell us about you. Where are you from. what is your background, is English your first lang etc. etc.

No, don't answer those questions HERE. rather create a profile and describe yourself. If you must log in as Guest then at least sign by some name to differentiate yourself so that patience understanding humor etc can be associated to a personality as opposed to just another Guest.

"Never the less I would appreciate if in answering the questions the same amount of energy would be spend as in discussing this VERY important subject."

This is a forum, look at the questions, they are not always black and white. Also the subjects can touch off in another direction that some members feel that should be address.

As far as sensitivity about the responses? That is nothing as compared to the value of the practical information acquired.

Yes there are some humorist remarks that I don't understand, but just because I'm not included in it dose not mean it insults me. It's been fair to good practice to put it off topic.

Re: Why does CR4 allow Guests to post anonymously?

Guests should be able to post anonymously, as well as members.

(as long as it's not a student looking for answers on a project without earning it)

There may be times where one wants to post incognito, can't think of a reason now.

As far as rude replies, Your on a site with professionals whether in the profession or not, one have to be mature enough to take criticism, it's the delivery that may need work, but too bad, because I like to think that sometime it's not what one wants to hear but needs to.

Also remember some replies may be rude because we are human (at least most of us are) and just having a bad day.

If your feelings are "hurt" by a reply, cause it's not what you want to hear. I have a suggestion. challenge it, we are professionals, and if we do not have grounds on a reply. we will recognize it, and correct it.

I am still reading through the earlier posts.
