I don't know whether steel is being traded as a commodity as of yet. There are so many types!!! However, try starting at these guys. They trade precious metals but have broadened into commodity metals. www.kitco.com

this is updated every two months in order to keep member companies from over controlling their inventories and purchases based on whatever the threat of the week is at that instant. They use it to justify prices to customers.

just a thought whether it applies, of what I have experience as a end buyer when I owned an fabrication and design company, there is the price for the metal and then surcharges to keep pace with the vulnerability and fluxuations of the marketplace, if one was going to get into it as a specutive manner as in return on investments. One have to be very aware of what is going on world wide on a broad range of information, and to do that with a consistant reverance.

The answer may not be as simple as the question.

I would agree with phoenix911. In addition, remember that the steel market is notoriously crooked. From time to time, one company (or country) or another is accused of "dumping" steel to drive competitors out of the market. So watch your buttocks!!! There's an awful lot of iron ore out there!
