It's certainly good to know this. I've thrown out all my batteries, and am hoping someone will bring me a flywheel to power my camera tomorrow. I wonder if the whirring would be annoying in a hearing aid battery.

Lots of potential in flywheels. The high strength, high density composites seem to be the best. If they break they fly into small pieces and not into high speed flying lumps in a crash.

Lots of research has been done. Trial vehicles built etc.

A few googles give these.

near future!blunder!

may be in near future flywheels again completly replaced by battery that is negligibly

tiny , foldable ,i don`t think we are using hard drive like mechanical battery in laptops cell phones , pacemakers etc, nano technology holds lots of promises , filament bulbs are replaced by gas bulbs , semiconductor optics , but not neglected it was not a technical blunder , but paved way for other technology to florish , i recomend you to be a member of this forum

a vehicle can have a stable horizon and a vertical spinner can be quite stable in the right suspension. In a cellphone or laptop the changes in axial direction caused by user motion will cause larger bearing losses and make the phone/laptop behave strangely via the gyroscopic effect.

So spinning energy storage is viable for a few applications. They are even testing it for time shifting energy uses. spin up your wheel between midnight and 6 AM with low cost grid power and operate from is the rest of the day. Overall efficiency of about 80% makes this viable with energy that is otherwise thrown away at night, like a lot of wind/water power

Hi Aurizon,

Please could you give me some figures on this as I would like to trial it.
My target is to generate/supply min. 3.5kw at 230volts for 12 hours;
(say >50 kwh) with peak demand at 5kw for short periods. (1/2 -1 hr)

Assuming an 80% efficiency as you suggest, and which is likely far better
than pumping water, or using costly storage batteries, etc. With a supply
of 5kw (and more if necessary) for the preceding 12 hours; what size
and make of equipment (?) would I need to complete this set-up?

Thank you for your help.

jt.
