How's about a little more information? Some context? Anything at all?

What is it with all these people who think that voltages only come in multiples of 11? This is the 3rd time this exact subject has been raised in this forum.

How does 230 divide evenly by 11? Or 208, 240, 380, 400, 415, 480, 575, 690, 1000, 1500, 2300, 2400, 4160, 6900, 12.47kV etc. etc.

If the voltages in YOUR tiny little part of the world are all divisible by 11, why not ask your own utilities?

Read your own sig. It also applies to other people's questions.

In my tiny part of the world there is a certain 11-ness about electricity transmission and distribution voltages. I'm sure there's a damned good reason too.

Maybe the poster could have phrased his question more clearly and chosen a slightly more useful title than 'query'.

Hope all is well in YOUR tiny part of the world.

If there is a 11ness about it, it may have a real practical origin.

The range of diesel engines developed (the ones I knew) as 3HP and was doubled to a 6. The 12HP doubled to 24 and 48 HP.

This was purely a matter of choice and it worked for us.

When switching over to electricity motors were built to replace the diesels and similar ranges developed. The 11 kW may have come about by metrication.

Changing the nameplate beats redesigning for a foreign size. Therefore the decision may be because of economic considerations.

It's just a local thing. Like frequency. Anybody who lives in a Mennonite area is certainly familiar with 28V, and I doubt that's repeated many places in the world.
