for someone that has an undergraduate degree going for his masters... I have found that doing the preliminary search on your own first before asking others to do it for you is more professional.

Is somebody telling me that undergraduate degrees in engineering no longer include basic kinematics? I would expect an Masters degree engineering student to be able to derive most of the dynamics.

Undergraduate?... hell, when I was going for my Associate degree in Mechanical Design, we covered this topic quite extensively... but then again, that was over 30 years ago...

Today, I think M.E.'s have an iPhone app for that now...

"The forces, both physical and inertial, acting on a leaning bike in the rotating reference frame of a turn where Nis the normal force, Ff is friction, m is mass, r is turn radius, v is forward speed, and g is the acceleration of gravity."

Why not ask your dog to cough up your homework? Wasn't that the excuse last time?

I suggest that you develop a few free body diagrams for each force you are interested in, your question is kinda broad requires what you are solving for.

Did you find the center of the mass of the bike, did you look at the interaction of the frame, tires and suspension for each case?

Did you research manufacturers websites for this information?

Is this homework?

My thought is get a motorcycle, learn to ride it, enjoy the feel and don't concern yourself with how it works. Just feel the wind in your hair and live the spirit of the open road and the dynamics of how it works will become irrelevent.

Until you forget just that one time to wear your helmet, and you crash, hurt your brain, and get a ticket in the process. Then maybe, one might wish to have a better feel for the physics of the ride. Just sayin'.

Perhaps he could start off with a bicycle, but wear a helmet. I love my motorcycle, but won't go out without a brain bucket. Saw too many guys who complained "it restricts my hearing" in the local rehab hospital.

rehab hospital,... ?

Friend of mine worked as a surgical nurse at Theda Clark trauma center.

She was hired there right after college. I ran into her, and of course asked her about her work... and she told me,... unfortunately.

the first week they brought a motorcyclist accident victim in,... was not wearing a helmet. brain matter coming out his nose... Then she told me her biggest fear... is that their going to bring someone in, and when they flip him over, she'll recognize them.

I walked members of our Sunday School to help at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, nothing like seeing guys just learning how to eat after they did their "freedom" run on a bike. The kids got the lesson real fast that morning.

One of the guys I worked with back in the 80's reinforced the idea of wearing a helmet - he watched a tree come up to him in slow motion as he left the road, he suffered a shoulder break, but the helmet protected his head - it wore down to paper thickness after a long skid on the ground. Lesson stuck!

I'm not a motorcycle rider. I'm not sure which scares me more in my brittle bone age, having a motorcycle accident or surviving a motorcycle accident.
