Dark Energy Camera Data

The first three years of searching for dark energy by the dark energy camera has now produced some results. It is too soon to say what this data means on the mystery of Dark Energy or Dark Matter, the analyses have barely begun. However, we have found out that our Milky Way has consumed several more smaller galaxies than we thought.

Now, notwithstanding all the Star Wars jokes, I have Donald Rumsfeld's statement in my mind again.

"There are known knowns; there are things we know we know.

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.

But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know."

I think we are learning that there are still a lot of unknown unknowns out there to learn about.

That would put them into the unknown knowns class, I think.

You knew them at one time, but no longer know what it is that you don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know if I even knew. I know I may have known at one time, but I don't know for sure.

I may know again, sometime in the future, but I can't be sure of that either.

WIPP is deeply underground and in the northern instead of the southern hemisphere so I doubt it. They might have been involved in camera development and testing. WIPP staff might be involved in analysis but I don't see how they might provide added data. Depending on what the analyses turn up there can easily be a corroborating experiment planned for WIPP.
