01/19/2018 11:48 AM

For those who may have quit following the above thread, the answer is below, as verified by the Arizona Museum of Natural History. Sedimentary dark Limestone with chert.

So, we were right...you should grind it into a sphere and polish it...

Nonononononononono! Surely a crystal ball for all those annoying threads would be a better option?

There is a friend of mine in Plainview, TX, a retired engineer, that does just that with good specimens he finds. He has all the gear to do this work, if you (Lyn) become interested.

Great stuff, but I like your stone just as it is.

As I said in the original thread The quick test with a few drops of acid (HCl or battery acid) would have been a positive identification.

It's really pretty.

I used to live close to Chert Pit Road in a Southern city. Didn't find out until years later that chert is a kind of rock. Subsequently I lived on Coal Pit Hill Road in Danbury CT. Sort of a theme here.

Are you trying to say, BIS, that your life has been in the pits? LOL!

Cheers! Have a great weekend!

Thanks. It is unusual. Especially since we believe it was found in the Arizona desert.

Since I have all the equipment, I'll be building some type of display/stand for it to go in the yard.

In due time.

I have given "rock" a sun-orbital home.

The stand was made from new angle hacked and rusted with vinegar and heat from a weed burner torch.
