To Stop or Not to Stop, a CNC Magazine at Position for Tool Change

03/06/2018 4:59 AM

Kindly, we are running the below cnc machine, after finishing a control and servodrives upgrade.
But, we are having some problems to stop the tool magazine at the exact position for tool change.
It is rotated by an hydraulic motor, which is controlled by hydraulic valves, making it very difficult to control the stoppage position.
Have you seen any cnc tool change similar to this one?
Any recommendations? ideas?

  1. As there is a <...we...>, what is the consensus of this group?
  2. What did the equipment manufacturer say during recent telephone calls on the topic?

The forum cannot know these things until they are stated.

Sounds like you could use a detent mechanism to stop it at the correct position.

I found that such mechanisms add to the wear and tear substantially. There are special servo motors that have 615,000 steps or so per rotation. Kind of expensive but it out performs any detent device.
