Boiler

03/12/2018 4:57 AM

We do have two queries:

What will be the bad effect of firing fuel gas with H2S on boilers (OTSG) when the temperature will be maintained above the dew point of sulphur . If the temperature is above the dew point there should not be any corrosion right as temperature lower than the dew point will only cause the formation of sulphuric acid . Is there any other bad effects .

Maybe, though one has to question the effect of increased sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide emissions on both the equipment and the population downwind of the stack. There may be discharge limits prescribed by the local regulator and exceeding those limits might invoke unwanted commercial and legal action in the applicable jurisdiction.

Gee, ..... Ummm....hot SO2, 3 etc will corrode Superalloy Inconell 740

So your carbon steel system should be safe .....

Please let us know how this affects your system.

You can still expect to form SO2, SO3 and SO4 radicals which can still attack at elevated temperature. How much will be determined by the boiler metallurgy and tube surface condition.
