CR Challenge

03/19/2018 10:14 AM

Does anybody remember the CR designer challenge from the 1980s?

The CR stood for Chicago Rawhide, whose main business is oil seals, from the web it looks like they've been taken over by SKF. I don't know whether that CR has anything to do with the CR of this forum, I tried to find out but it didn't jump out at me.

The challenge consisted of 10 questions with multi-choice answers and ran for several years, with some fairly valuable prizes. Mostly interesting questions, often with a sting in the tail. My then boss would never let work get in the way of a good technical wangle, and we'd discuss it at length.

FYI, CR4 comes from "Conference Room 4", no connection to Chicago Rawhide. Here is some history...

OK thanks, thought most likely no connection.

BTW I meant "technical wrangle" not wangle

CR4 can be interpreted as follows:

1. CLASS ROOM FOR YOU

2. CONSULTATION ROOM FOR YOU

This forum consists of several thousands of engineers from different streams of working experience and different disciplines of engineering. Also, this forum has math, physics and chemistry graduates.

Many good suggestions/advise are made by different engineers.

OK thanks, but it was the Chicago Rawhide designer challenge from the 80s that I was mainly asking about.

Then let me impart a little knowledge. It's "occasional".
