It looks to be for mounting something to a desk or table. Are those threads on the inside?

Maybe a lamp, monitor holder, beer can holder?

Have you purchased something that has the option to mount to a table or desk?

Could it have come with your couch table?

Regardless of what this clamp was used for in the past, the question should be what can done with this?

Re: What is it ?

I have no clue....it's plastic so probably not for anything heavy....the hole is is 1" in diameter, the clamp opens to around 2.5", the bell shaped end is 2" OD, and threaded a short distance and measures 2.75". the thing is 6" in length...I have no knowledge of ever seeing it, of course at my age that doesn't mean much....but it is obviously new and was in an unmarked box, there's no markings on the piece at all...

I was thinking it must be some sort of tool attachment, but have no idea for what...

I'm Sorry to inform you that the piece in question has been misplaced or stolen, so a sample will not be available for analysis.

I wonder... With two of these and your rod a banner could be hung between. Decorative finials could screw into the cups or festive flowers for spring.

Does that rod fit snugly in both the hole it's in and the hole at the base of the flared section?

Does the hole at the base of the flared section go all the way to the bottom (near the other hole)?

No the hole at the bottom of the flare is a bit smaller....Yes the hole in the flared section goes down to the 1" transverse hole and stops...The rod is some aluminum round stock I had laying around, I think it's 1" diameter so a snug fit, would have to sand it down to get it all the way in...

Obviously, part of it is missing...

Maybe it is something similar to this:

(It's a clamp on light for a boat.)

I don't have a boat....I had a 30' sailboat about 10 years ago, but I can't imagine anything that this would be used for on that, it's plastic, even the screw is plastic...anything on a boat, a seagoing vessel, needs to be sturdy and secured with great care....

It's not sturdy or large enough for a fishing pole holder...

It's a hog-washer nozzle attachment. Looks like you are missing the screw-in nozzle. I would check the kitchen drawer and the boy's room. If you don't find the rest of it, take it next door to your neighbors house with a beer and tell him you're sorry you took so long to return it.

It's clearly a device for temporarily retaining screws and nuts during disassembly projects.

The missing piece is the magnet then required to collect them off the floor.

If you work in a cubicle you attach that to the top and then you have a coat hook. Not sure what the hole would be used for.

It's a swivel lamp base, or the base for some sort of articulated arm. Clamps onto the edge of a table and the hole points up acting as a socket for an adjustable position lamp. The sideways hole allows clamping onto a vertical, such as a cabinet side or a table leg and then plug the attachment into the hole.

I have a few magnifying lamps with those and my wife has a yarn ball winder that mounts on a similar base.

Yes I believe you are correct, this lamp appears to match the material, and I believe it disconnects from the base it's currently mounted on...The cross hole is just for strength...

It's an alternative mount for a desk lamp....
