I Need This Thing...

06/20/2018 10:56 AM

In keeping with many of the recent inquiries, I thought I'd start this one.

I need this thing to do something. It needs to have these other things in it that do thingy sort of things to the thing.

Can anybody make any non-rude suggestions about what sort of thing I need and where I can get it.

And none of this in-the-blind flailing about and wandering you folks are prone to. Stick to the thing.

Not enough information. What standards are you going to work to? How often will it be deployed? What is the required operational lifetime?

All MIL-TFD-1, -41 or -1111 can be COTS, but not all COTS can be MIL-TFD-1, -41 or -1111.

I think you might be laying down on the job.

Oh, I forgot to mention that it has to be blue, or maybe a mauvey shade of russet.

The only requirement is that it meet MIL-TFD-1.

I wish you'd specify the color in the beginning,... but no problem... make sure to specify the color when you order your pallet truck load of duct tape.

And remember, If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy....

At least let us know whether you're looking for a thing-a-ma-bob, or a thing-a-ma-jig.

Definitely thing-a-ma-jig.

Thing-a-ma-jigs are used to make more thing-a-mas.

Thing-a-ma-bobs are used to check if they are vertical.

Blue Hair and Russet Jammies

But you need to select between Thing 1 and Thing 2. The Cat in the Hat will show you a video to help you make your decision if you click on the Blue Hair or the Russet Jammies. Many still have trouble deciding and order the assortment box of two.

Re: I Need This Thing...

Come to think of it, I'm looking for the same thing....

It would be nice to have an electrician's version of a multi-tool/swiss-army-knife thingy.

It would need terminal crimpers, wire gauge/strippers/cutter, the standard needle-nose/cutter, points-file(for parallel cleaning)/fiberglass-abrasive-points-cleaner(for 90deg cleaning), wire-release punch tool for standard house switch/outlet connections, Awl/tapered-punch/needle (for aligning misaligned wire and screw-holes), etc.

It would be nice if it was not riveted together, so you could disassemble it, and replace/swap the bits/blades/tools with other optional ones, to customize your own tool.

Anyone know of such a tool? With a belt-holster?

Not as such. It would most likely be used to conserve scarce electrical apprentice resources.

Seriously, though, we have a local problem with metal thieves going after electrical wiring with Leatherman multitools and occasionally one will try to cut energized circuits. However, I see that as a self correcting problem.

Heard an interesting story yesterday about a theft from a collectors group in Seattle. The theft was reported. The victim found pieces from the theft at a scrap dealer, who was able to identify the name and address of the thief. However, the Seattle police refused to investigate or prosecute.

I suspect your story is true, although inexcusable! I've heard the same is true of scammers; even when you can provide information to identify scammers, the authorities won't prosecute.

No wonder the scammers continue to proliferate, and the thieves continue to steal...

Certainly. Here's one:

Has the original been broken-up and disposed of, perhaps?

No sir, that is a time warp continuum with a built on one way communications device. What the OP is looking for does not have landing gear attached.

It only works at night due to an advanced interrupted delay system on the snooze button. It does however switch On at the coupled Off button.

You might find the thing you need right here. If I had to guess, I would say it's number 6 or number 25.

You forgot the most important one. Bass-O-Matic

That's it, Bass-O-Matic is the thing he needs.

Well the patent department can kiss my bass. I ordered 10 Bass-O-Matics and that is one good bass.

Bass-O-Matic is what he needs, as do the rest you, you just don't know it yet.

Doesn't that bass in the blender look yummy? No waste..... Tree huggers should love it, nothing goes to waste.

One thing not yet established is the desired henway of your thing.

Restated, how many henway are desired?

Doesn't a henway about the same as a rooster?

I would expect a roosterway to be a henway plus 25%, more or less.

Similarly, the ratio between a duckdo and a goosedo is... never mind, a goosedo is the same a duckdo.

What you need first is a round tuit. Once you have one you'll be able to get all the other things you need:-

Unfortunately I am overstocked with round tuits. I have a whole garage full in fact. What I really need is that thingie I asked about initially. We've worked out that it needs to be the thing-a-ma-jig, which I can use to make more thing-a-mas. And blue. Definitely blue.

Following your line of reasoning, it's more likely to involve a lubricant, although insertion is not a factor in this case.
