I expect that it is just like raising a child. It can't be done casually.

Washoe, a chimpanzee, also learned American sign language. She also deeply understood the emotions of grief and empathy. If I remember correctly Washoe also taught other chimpanzees to sign, too.

If she spent most of her time around humans, I'm wondering if she might not have thought of herself as human. Just a thought...

I seriously doubt she thought of herself as human. I think you meant that she only thought of herself and the humans who signed with her as just individuals, speciation was never a thought.

I hope there wasn't any monkey business involved....

I guess we'll have to settle for LI, but it'll be difficult.
