Thanks for posting! I prefer to buy pre-spliced rope, but seeing the techniques together makes me feel good about doing it myself.

You're welcome. Having these skills can sometimes help you out in a pinch, and it's much cheaper.

As a child, my Father taught me how to splice rope. When hunting, Dad would have a short length of rope in his pocket. During the slow times when sitting in the woods, he would demonstrate another splice then have me do it till it was correct. Today, at 61+ years old, I can ( and do ) still splice rope from time to time. Life lesson learned!!

Classically, one would look this up in "The Ashley Book of Knots", for instance.

Being raised on the farm, there were (2j knots that my dad taught me early on,

1.) the square knot, that’s what we used to tie in the next bale of twine for the baler

2.) The Bow Line knot, this was a very important knot on the farm, we used to break horses with, or tie young stock or horses with where we didn’t have to worry about the loop pulling tight.

the bowline know is also known as The cowboy knot. And the rescue know used by rescue personnel.
