The Barrick Gold Corporation is looking for new ways to increase the extraction of silver from one of its mines in Argentina. It is offering a prize of $10 million to any scientist, researcher or inventor who can help them do this - as long as the proposal is economically and environmentally sound. For more information, or to submit a proposal, check out their website http://www.unlockthevalue.com/ (note, the site was offline when I went there).
Mining companies offering monetary incentives to outsiders is not new. In 2000, another Canadian company, Goldcorp, paid a $500,000 prize to a company that helped them locate better drilling sites.
Unfortunately, mining technology is outside my skill set or I'd give it a go...Anyone got any ideas?
