There is possibly one minor problem you might have with the timer if it depends on the mains frequency in that you will get 50 second minuites!

As regards the the power it is no problem to run transformers at a slightly higher frequency than ther specification.

A microwave Oven uses a transformer to produce high voltage in the range 2- 2.25 KV , to be utrilized by a magnetron that produce a frequency between a comman Radio and Infra red frequencies( 2.45 Mhz). The High frequency induced by magnetron excite the food stuff molecule and vibration produce Friction heat. That is why microwave so quickly heat up the food stuff.

In your case ,input voltage is quite compatible , input frequency is slightly different, 50 Hertz instead of 60 heatrz or vice versa. To my knowledge, microwave will work with that frequency diffrence. In few equipment , manufacturer provide the optional switch to adjust the equipment frequecy according to your supply. If that option not available, you may use the microwave with that frequency differnce, hazards are same as that are to any microwave.

Many appliances and machines are indicated to run on both 50 and 60 Hz, I cant see why your microwave shouldnt work.

Hi guest,

I noticed you received no replies regarding your question about using a microwave and how it may effect your health. I used a microwave for years until about 2 years ago when I stumbled across a blogg or whatever and did a search on google using the keywords "russian microwave ban". From the day I read the info from the multitude of sites giving information on this topic, I immediately stopped using a microwave for anything that would be going into my body. I still use it for heating up rags etc.

Most of my friends and family have either stopped or slowed down on their use of a microwave to cook or heat liquids/foods to be ingested after they either heard my story or read it for themselves. My advice to you is to do some research into this fascinating subject and come to your own conclusion as to whether a microwave can effect your health....thanks....Steve

Yes and that russian microwave ban is repeated word for word on lots of sites. I'm not saying it didn't happen it's just typical of the scaremongering that goes on on the net. People don't understand how microwave ovens work, and perhaps don't use them correctly, (a case of a bad workman blaming his tools). They confuse electromagnetic radiation with nuclear (ionizing) radiation, and describe all sorts of consequences which are not possible. When someone believes this stuff it is impossible to talk them out of it. I have tried for 6 months by email and failed with one friend. I think some people want to be scared. If you want an argument against a microwave oven here's one>

Input

1200W (micro)

OutPut

800W

- that's not very efficient. (I measured my input current and I am sure it came out worse than this). And this is using electricity generated by buring a fossil fuel at about 60% (?) efficiency! If you want to heat some water use a kettle, or milk use a pan. If you want to eat microwave-specific prepared meals by all means do but the consequences are not the result of the microwave but the ingredients of the meal. Microwaves are great for chicken and fish when used correctly but PLEASE stop repeating this russian microwave ban scare story. If you want people to stop using them use a valid argument.

I also am SICK of information (probably 3rd hand, 4th hand, or n'th hand) as to why I should NOT 1. defrag my ABC disk drive, 2. Not use my microwave oven, 3. Many other assorted things.

My first question is "Why not?? The only reply is "Because Joe said not to". Who in the heck is Joe?? What are his credentials?

Several years ago, I went into a store to buy a VHF/UHF TV antenna. The configuration was typical LOG-Periodic. The salesman was trying to explain why we needed a rotator because for the UHF signal, you had to rotate the antenna 180 degrees. We got the antenna and no rotator. I can't remember the name of the seller, but it had something to do with radio crap.

In any case, know the credibility of your source!! If you don't, look into it. If you can't find it... forget it.

Sincerely

Bill
