Looking for Suppliers

09/24/2007 8:20 AM

I am looking for two different suppliers and internet searches has produced nothing I can use.

First I need disk brakes. I'm and OEM and I don't want to get into details here, only with the suppliers, This supplier should be ready to supply 4,000 sets, that's calipers, pads, and disks per year, 3 year contract. The supplier can do the complete design and just give me drawings with enough information for me to design the truck around.

Next I need a supplier for a rack and pinion steering system, I want to same as above except it, only 1,200 units a year.

Internet searches brings up automotive after market suppliers, such as NAPA or AutoZone and things like that. Not interested in that, I'm looking the manufacturer.

Any help?

So there's Nelson Mandela, sitting on his porch one evening in his swing-seat, with the sun going down over the velt. In the distance, there's a dust cloud. It gets closer. It turns out to be a delivery truck and it pulls up outside Nelson Mandela's house. The driver gets out.

"Nelson Mandela?"

"Yes?"

"I've got 4000 sets of brake pads for you!"

"But I didn't order any!"

"It doesn't matter to me. Just sign here and they're yours".

And with that the delivery driver unloads the brake pads and drives off into the distance. A bewildered Nelson Mandela gets back onto his swing-seat and watches the dust cloud disappear into the distance, with the sun going down over the velt.

The next day the same thing happened.

"Yes?"

"I've got 450 exhaust systems for you!"

This time our hero is just too curious, and questions the driver.

"Two days ago you delivered 4000 sets of brake pads?

"Yes."

"And yesterday 1200 rack-and-pinion steering systems?"

"Yes."

"And today there's 450 exhaust systems. What am I supposed to do with all this? There's got to be something wrong. Let's have a look at your paperwork."

With that, the mistake becomes obvious.

"Ahah!", says Nelson. "You don't want Nelson Mandela. You want Nissan Main Dealer!"

I checked out that web site, and it looks they they are after market supplier, I went to search products and it asked me for the make of my car. I'm an OEM so I'm looking for something original for my product offering.

Im pretty sure they can make it. Are you looking for something economical, or more towards performance? The reason I ask is, you could use rotors, calipers etc. from a common model and adapt them to your design. Your end users could go into any parts store, and give the other OEM' s part number to get their parts. On the more performance oriented side, you could talk to Baer or Brembo and have them manufacture any braking system. http://www.baer.com/products/complete/index.php

Unless you are looking for some very exotic product, you are wasting your time. there must be an OEM who already makes it, especially if you are willing to compromise a bit... The good news, It will be a lot cheaper. Best place in the world to look for it is Italy.

Hope it helps

Wangito.
