Configuring Goose in Schneider PX4 Devices

10/28/2018 1:23 PM

I am trying to configure goose messages in Schneider P443 and P546. Somehow, the files are not getting to the IEC 61850 configurator. Am a bit puzzled here.

Perhaps you could define such terms as "goose", "Schneider", "PX4", and "IEC 61850 configurator", to say nothing of "P443" and "P546". As it stands, there is no excuse for anyone to attend to such matters.

GOOSE is an acronym (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) for a high speed (sub-cycle) communication packet system used in protective relaying, especially those that are protecting generators. P443 and P546 are Schneider's "MiCOM" line of protective relays; P443 is a Distance Relay, P546 is a Current Differential Relay. IEC 61850 is the general communication protocol for all protective relays. GOOSE is a subset of IEC 61850 and uses the same network, but is given priority over all other communications because its purpose is to take actions far faster than anything else.

As to why it isn't showing up in the relay configurator, that's actually a question for the Schneider Tech Support line because whatever the problem is, it will be specific to the Schneider MiCOMM equipment.
