A Good Green Earth

03/27/2019 12:44 PM

Growing and using hemp can help the climate change in a better direction. It was the #1 crop (until tobacco) in the original colonies and it can be again. If the conversation is upgraded to 'facts', then it will GROW.

That rather vague and brief statement is an understatement, Hemp cultivation is already growing by leaps and bounds, as we discussed on here just a short time ago...

Hemp has been an important crop worldwide for over 10,000 years...

Growing and using hemp can help the climate change in a better direction.

How?

Here's the logic...

Illegal growers in California use a lot of electricity that government planners can't plan for...

Kind of a stretch...

Climate changes, and lately.......because there is so much moisture coming up from the the equatorial regions, the planet is getting so much greener, that now is the time to continue to 'green up ' this good planet. ' Green ' absorbs co2, and INNOVATION will continue to show the way, even for people who could care less about the planet.

Fashion industry waste has been in the news, and a few initiatives to address the "fast fashion" issues - enormous amount of clothes going to the dump.

I've been told that hemp is a long lasting fiber, really durable cloth. If the hype is true, a swing towards more durable clothes would be welcome to me.

Dye properties of hemp are similar to cotton, the rivers of dye pollution are another big nasty issue in the 'fast fashion'. But I suppose, even if the clothes last longer it could reduce that waste as well - in theory. Human behavior is the other part.

Innovation is taking a stronger place in 'human behavior '. Which includes reading history.

I know a couple of small farmers in states where growing hemp has just become legal, who are planning to jump right in as soon as licenses are available this spring. They're hoping to make some money at it before it gets taken over by the big players. Which they do expect because, yes, they read history and have lived through some as well!

However as I understand it, this can be a difficult crop to keep healthy without a lot of interventions. Depending on how that goes, it could be as damaging to the environment as any other farm enterprise.

Your OP and remarks are a bit scanty, and leaves me wondering if you are simply touting hemp as a solution without knowing the full details?
