tube light oprating at 230v/50hz is it possible to operate it on 230v/60hz

Possibly, but more information is needed...

In London UK the tube is the underground system, perhaps you mean a fluorescent tube with ballast?

I'm not an authority on this but I think it may function if you don't use the original ballast (which is rated at 50Hz, I believe). Use another ballast with the same wattage rating but for 60Hz.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Preferrably before our friend does what I just told him to!

The lamps don't care about the hz if the ballast is electronic, it will work perfectly, if the ballast is magnetic, it will work, but not optimum....

However, a 60 Hz ballast will NOT work on 50hz

yes,it can be made.usually all products are made such that they work on these two frequencies
