jammers

I know this topic will really aggravate the FCC, but is it possible to buy or build a pocket-held device to prevent cellular phones from working in my vicinity? I know I'm not the only one annoyed at having your dinner or movie ruined by those folks that just can't keep their mouths shut.

Not legally.

They are out there in movie theaters and such, maybe with permits.

I use it to get them out of the restroom at work. Tying up the john setting there text messaging their friends 15 to 30 minutes.

What do you use? A loud radio would do that.

....as would a wad of cotton wool dipped in flaming methylated spirit and lobbed over the door...

Some operators have installed glass in their train windows that are coated with a very thin film of gold. The coating is opaque to radio waves and the occupants sit, therefore, within a Faraday Cage. Look out for the designated "quiet coach" on Chiltern Railways long-distance services. Aaaah! Bliss!
