Headhunting

01/30/2020 11:19 PM

I am currently looking for a new job

A website I have found has some jobs that might be relevant but there is a charge to get the details - basically a monthly fee which also allows you to access their headhunters.

This feels a bit iffy to me but is not the same and some f the scams I have seen about recruitment companies charging to submit applications as well as getting paid by the recruiting company.

Any thoughts on if this is common?

I am Process / Chemical Engineer with 20+ yrs experience currently looking in East / SE Asia

Charging a fee for this is unlawful in the UK.

I have never heard of an applicant paying a fee to a legitimate agency in the US. I don't know about Asia but I'll cast my vote for SCAM.

Hopefully some engineers with first hand experience in Asia will respond.

But first, ask yourself why you currently want to relocate closer to China?...

Maybe they are Chinese, or already live in the region.

As for illegitimi, carborundum is silicon carbide, SiC, a well-known abrasive. But fatherless and illegitimate are two different things; I was one of them for much of my youth, but never the other.

So was I, and to clarify, my ''signoff'' was directed towards a few of the (info-bullys... ?) that joined long before you did, so it is not personal, in your case...

Recruiters that actually recruit will typically work on a commission basis, and will thus try to (fit a square peg in a round hole) to try get one more commission...

Are there any chemical engineering related conventions or expo's going on near your current locale?

With 20 years experience, I would think that at least a few nearby companys would want to talk with you...

If they don't, then ask them directly if they know someone who might...

Thanks for all the comments

Being currently based in Seoul, a move to KL, Singapore etc would move me away from Hubei and mot of China although Hong Kong might be closer to Wuhan. Whilst I wouldn't be looking at jobs in Hubei I am still looking in Beijing / Shanghai the heath risks in those two plus Seoul are def - air pollution (coal power gen and badly adjusted vehicles) and normal flu way ahead of Corona

The advert read more like a higher level of membership a bit like LinkedIn Premium but it just smelt a bit off.
