The Haircut Dilemma During Covid19

04/22/2020 6:13 PM

Well I've given it some thought and have come up with a fix for getting haircuts during the pandemic, it's an add on for the barber chair that sits on a swivel base, three sides closed and the top covered, with arm holes through the back, with 270° of movement....just add long gloves and good to go...The whole assembly should be hinged on the back for opening, and with adjustable height....

...any other ideas?

Why was this incredible.. great wonderful answer... That would give jobs to American manufacturers marked as o t.

A box with holes at the proper height and with has been thier bread and butter for as long as hair has been cut with modern scissors.

?

I aak you America.

Re: The Haircut Dilemma During Covid19

That's one thing that's bugging me...I needed a haircut before this shutdown and now I really do. The beard is no problem, but I don't think I could get the hair right.

There was a hairdresser lady on TV that put up a Youtube video on how to cut your own hair, as a public service. That's dumb like a fox. I bet when she opens up again, she'll have a lot of customers who need her to fix the mess they made.

By the way, where's that fella with the Koken barber chair that used to post?

Strange that in Australia you can have your hair cut, but not able to do your nails.

Do it yourself - #3 on sides and #5 on top. Then comes the dangerous bit - ask "she who must be obeyed" to tidy up the back.

Re: The Haircut Dilemma During Covid19. Welding Cross-Over

Welding Cross-Over For World Class Darwin Award (Humor)

Being frugal enough to compare notes with Clark Howard, I would avail myself of the free haircut services of barber (cosmetologist ?) training classes offered by a well known chain. That, of course was BW (Before Wuhan). AW, I have combined brushing up solo on my oxyacetylene welding skills with DIY singe treatments. I also use a #3 tip for hair and a #1 tip for face. An oxidizing flame is good for surface decontamination and a carburizing flame gives me that hardened, sooty look. A blowing flame is good for drying after a shower and MAPP gas is good for a minor touch up. For a trim in a flash just defer igniting your flame until you have covered yourself with a thick layer of stoichiometrically perfect fuel/oxidizer mixture and ignite it at the very end. If you get distracted and apply too much of the mix you might give yourself the very last singe haircut you will ever need. These singe style haircuts totally eliminate split ends in favor of little wads of charcoal on the ends of your individual hairs which inspires me to toast up some smores to AWS standards after an artful, aroma-theraputic singe.

I also tried stick welding as a singe mechanism but slag removal was a little too intense for my scalp.

_____________

thewildotter

Do not try this at home. Not understanding the dangers of welding especially as applied to cosmetology will likely earn you a centerfold in the Journal of Morbidity and Mortality and probably a special notation on your Darwin Award for stupidity beyond most liverworts.

I've been cutting my own hair, I think it looks better than when I was getting it cut at the barber...but that's just my opinion, I mean it's not as neat or as short, but has more style, not so vanilla.....Have you ever noticed that people react to you differently when you go without cutting your hair regularly...When you look a little sloppy people seem friendlier, I guess you present less of a threat somehow, less successful, more approachable, less competitive....less boss like, more employee like...haha

The purpose of a good haircut is to look like you didn't just have a haircut.

So why bother?

I learned to cut my own in the mirror.A little tricky to get used to the opposite movement, but once past the learning curve,it is easy.

I do the back part of the neck by muscle memory, feel.and 2 mirrors.

A really good test of hand-eye dis-coordination.

Sure,I messed up a few times, while learning, even gave myself a reverse Mohawk once.

I decided,in the interest of sanitation to go hairless.

Much better.Saves electricity .No need for a hair dryer.

Don't ask about the tattoos,I was out tomcattin' with the guys, don't remember much..

Hic..Hic..

Cheer up! We are all in this together.!

You either have complete protection or you go home.

This is one option but there are better with complete head covering below shoulders.

The only problem is most manufacturers i asked have a 12 month supply lag to catch up with their 1000 % increase in orders

Long beards have uses. Back in early firefighting days, a long beard was stuffed in the mouth and became a breathing filter for smoky environments. But bear in mind that smoky environments back then didn't have plastic fumes.

In case of total societal collapse, it would be worth knowing how cavemen cut their hair. Once they invented fire they could just stick their head in the fire for a moment for a quick flame cut, but before that innovation, what did they do? Did they spread their hair out on a flat rock and pound it with another rock? Rather limiting in stylistic choices for the image conscious.

There were obsidian arrow heads ans spear points and scalpels found from the stone ages, and they were still sharper than modern scalpels.

They use obsidian scalpels today for critical surgery.

I can't say too much about wild hair,I was once in that group, many many moons ago,but one day I was sitting in a bar,and this young man with a rainbow haircut came in and sat down.

I could not help but stare.

He said "Didn't you ever do anything wild and crazy when you were young?"

"Well, yes I did.I got drunk one time and made love to a Peacock, and I could not help but wonder if you might be my son."

Cheer up! It might not all be true.!

I told you I was drunk! I don't remember much about it, but it was better than the Ostrich or Goose or the sheep..after that,I gave mixing up Stalward Nova, Amrut Naarangi, and Scotch, and Irish Whiskey.

What a hangover!I woke from a dream of Druids chasing Ostriches,Grey Hornbills, sheep and kangaroos across the Serengeti.

No telling what I would have dreamed if I had added Jose Cuervo to that witches brew.!(I think it might have been the eye of newt or toe of frog in the bottom of my glass).

But still,I had rather have a bottle in front of me than to have a frontal lobotomy.

I am classed as (cough, cough) old and infirm with underlying medical conditions, as is my wife. As a result we have a hairdresser (sorry, CAREGIVER) who comes to our home and cuts our hair for us. As long as she doesn't have it and neither do we, we are good to go.

I've been cutting my own hair for decades - when I remember to do it. Usually before going out on a bi-weekly supply mission to replenish the winter hoard. And when no one is around, I talk to myself out loud, often. Pretty much every day. Like all of the isolated people are now doing hahahaha, but haven't admitted yet. They've only come out about the grooming issues, so far. Hyuck, hyuck.

IDK exactly the word count required to remain mentally healthy... but the sound is good. Never mind about your hair.

You could use it just as it is sitting on the table. Simply have customers lob off the heads of their loved ones and ship them to you in a box. By the time that they arrive the virus should be dead. Problem solved!

I really need to get out more.

I got a hair cut.

We both wore a mask and I was interviewed and had a temperature check at the door. I had to hold the mask loop away from my ears for that part and I sanitized my hands before I touched my stuff afterwards.

For me that was acceptable risk. I don't believe I live in a place with a high infection rate and the volume of customers was actually less than expected.

The risk of loosing a piece of ear under SE's contraption though, not acceptable.

I hung a mirror on the backside of the powder room door. The medicine cabinet is one of those with three hinged mirror panels so I can angle the outer panels just right to get full view of the back of my noggin.

Then it's a No. 4 on top, No. 2 on the sides, and the eyebrows, and fancy taper thingy for around the ears (No. 0 to No. 2 linear transition).

It's not a flat-top like I used to wear, but it'll do.
