Yes: I'd be completely happy walking around with a nuclear source about 9" from my crown jewels.

It's probably reasonably safe. Beta radiation is pretty easy to shield and the decay product (N14) is not radioactive.

Unfortunately they would probably cost a small fortune, and due to low power density are probably going to be quite large, comparatively speaking....probably need a backpack to power your devices, which every kid seems to have now anyway...so it's all good....

There are amazing claims for silicon anode in Li-Si batteries too. i think 10x's more storage than a carbon anode and amazing discharge rates ect.. BUT...

the stuff expands something like 400% and then cracks up when charging. once the material cracks up, one loses the conductive path.. there are other detrimental hurtles that crossing the valley of death" in innovation, to bring concepts to production levels.

So when a company make theoretical claims about a particular material.. it always must be taken with a grain of salt...

I know i am not telling the residents of this site anything new.. just stating the obvious (for those in R&D) to the younger crowd... some call this wisdom.. others call it reality.
