33KV SWGR Earthing System

11/09/2007 3:44 AM

Dears, CR4 team

Anyone suggest what is the best economical design of earthing system for a 33KV Switchgear bearing the following specs:

1) circuit voltage is 33KV.

2) short circuit capacity 25KA.

3) clearing time 1.0 sec.

4) current deviation factor sf= 1.0

5) soil resistivity = 20.05 ohm-cm

6) SWGR type ABB GIS.

any web site to help me design such a system?

As has been said before in answer to similar questions, there'll be local regulations which will cover this. 'Fraid it's not a case of economy, you've just got to do what the regs say.

Don't know where you're from, but in the UK it's "Requirements for Electrical Installations" from BSI & the Institute of Electrical Engineers (AKA "I-double-E Wiring Regs") that's the bible.

Thanks, John

Actually my regulations are same as UK and based on BSI and IEE standards. The earthing installations are required for oil&gas fields and i want to know the best design based on the above standards.

Why are so many "Guests" just so "d**n s****d" and show little knowledge of their (highly dangerous) subject and think that they can pick the infos up in 5 minutes on CR4?

They are not even clever enough to sign on properly so that they get email notification of a reply!!!!

I would not give him the time of day as he may go away with half an idea and kill himself.

There again you Guys might be onto something............!

Andy,

when we post a question in cr4 that doesn't mean we don't know an answer but it's always better to share it with others to get the best applicable ones & if you don't have something/time to offer you better quit or just bypass.

Guest(s) if you were so sure that you even 1% or more right, you would not post in an Anonymous fashion....you would sign on as a full logged in CR4 member with a name etc.....

As you DON'T do that, you obviously realize (in spite of your comments) that you are probably a lot less than 1% right in what you are saying.

Sadly, the guests show alarming levels of "Lack of knowledge".....not just on a particular point, but in whole fields and areas they "want to learn all about".......

It is a fact that most "Guest" requests for information are in EXCEEDINGLY dangerous areas where a little knowledge can kill you and those around you. The questions alone show that they most of them have neither the background or the knowledge to work in these areas.

So do not be surprised when I see that and warn them off. I have probably prevented more possible accidents than we will ever find out, IF they took my advice. If not, they may star in a Darwin Awards URL one day.....

Your post shows a complete lack of thought in this area with regard to danger..... which is Guest typical sadly.

Another point is that with a name and a log on, you actually get a short email telling you when your blog has been updated by someone, you don't need to look each day!!

There is a German saying " Those who don't have the knowledge in their brain, have it in their feet!"

Which means basically, they end up doing it the hard way, not the easy (or correct) way!!!

Have a great day anyway.....

Andy,

Its better to go with the mesh network as already available in practice. But te best method is to provide individual earthing system with four electrode being connected each other. The detail mau follow if u show interest on the same.
