  • Has the system been properly maintained?
  • What does the system designer and supplier have to say about the tardy delivery of hot water?

I would guess that the best person able to answer your question is the chap who designed and installed your system.

The information you have given is insufficient for a meaningful answer.

It can be done and makes a world of difference (I have one in my home). The problem is that you need a full loop with a return line from your furthest point. That means you need an extra pipe in the walls to carry the water back to the tank. If installing the return line is feasible, great. If not, you could look into in-room tank-less heaters (probably electric for your application) that could supply heat until the water arrived from the tank. Does that help?

And to add to CSM's reply, a small bronze body circulator returning hot water from the farthest point from the water heater will keep it close by for everyone.

You can probably fish PEX pipe through the building the cheapest and easiest. This line should be insulated so as not to waste energy. It takes very little flow to make this work effectively.

Draw a schematic of the current system and include any pressures at various points if you have pressure gauges installed at certain places and send it to us. Include pipe sizes if possible. Distances are important to show on the drawing.

You say "solar", so does this mean a black tank on a roof with gravity flow to the rooms (like my water heater in Somalia), or a commercial solar system with pumps? If the walls are concrete or other 'heat absorbing' material the heat is warming up the walls before it finally arrives to the guest.

As pointed out earlier a constant circulation system needs a return pipe. There will be heat loss as the circulation system 'warms' up the walls so if your solar system produces 'warm' water now it will become cooler.
