We just answered this...You need to select your tubing material type (like copper nickel), of a thickness that is well within the pressure limits and lifetime design length of service taking wear into consideration( if you expect .001" loss of surface per year and you have a 20 year design life that's .02" corrosion allowance) the length and diameter are chosen by the total surface area needed to meet the amount of heat exchange needed, which is calculated by the incoming amount of heat and the rate of flow minus the incoming temperature of the cooling water and rate of flow, total btu's....

I already did, it's the first answer in your last post...

Some additional info on cu-ni alloy tubing...

. 70/30 Cupro Nickel Heat Exchanger Tube has a Thermal Conductivity of 32.9 W/mK (0.0900 BTU in/hr.ft². °F)

Look it up in Perry, “The Chemical Engineer’s Handbook”, any edition.

Area you asking for designing for Pressure (Such as to ASME Specificati9ns) or Sizing for thermal heat exchange, or both.

either way, it’s not for the untrained.

Oh, any number of ways.

  • The most popular these days is to talk the problem through with companies that supply heat exchangers - one can find all their phone numbers on their websites.
  • Another is to bounce the problem off a local Chemical Engineer.
  • A third is to use Perry, “The Chemical Engineer’s Handbook”, any edition.
  • etc.
