Computer/Brain Interface

11/03/2020 12:56 PM

The future of the human race may be a merging of super-computers and the brain and body:an enhanced human being. This may actually be the end goal of human evolution.

Enhanced vision,strength,memory and imagination.

Instant access to all other humans,a virtual Borg.

Humans may be able to experience a pseudo-reality so precise it will not be distinguishable from reality. The advanced "Holo Deck" experience.

Some people will prefer to live there.

No need to go to other planets, robots can do that and send the data back so that you may walk on other planets, that are too hostile or inconvenient to explore personally.

A new development along these lines has occurred, and these may be the first baby steps to the future.

It would be the end alright....what a horrific thought...evolutionary dead end....

Ditto. It has almost already become like that now--I believe I could make a case for de-evolution.

The speed of light might put the kibosh on walking around vicariously. It's about 2 1/2 seconds round trip to the moon (between sensing and reacting), possibly doable but definitely not seamless. Even for the closest planets, however, you are talking minutes round trip.

I was thinking of a recording device that could store the data, and you could select from a library of prerecorded events, like we do videos and interactive games now,but much more advanced.

I'm thinking that without interactivity, there would be no fun.

However, if you fly your starship into orbit around a planet, you could send a robot to the surface that you could walk (or fly) around vicariously. Latency would be small enough for this to work if it weren't a really large planet.

No fun?

Tell that to the millions that play interactive games, with motion sensors and feedback.

Who knows what kind of interfaces they will have in 50 years or less.

Link in the optic nerves,no need for a display screen of any kind.

Link the brain, and only the imagination is the limit.(Sorry.Not good for those with no imagination).

The first thing such a hybrid cyborg dual-brain lash-up would do would probably (swap-out) all its organic human body parts for more durable and less worrisome components (i.e.: arms, legs, eyeballs, etc.)...

The next thing (they) would probably do is ask themselves why they have to keep haulling around so much hormone-addlepated, slower-learning, human brain tissue that keeps drifting off-focus so often...

Thus, (spawning?) a synthezoid (life ?)-form that would then proceed to discard everything human-related as being non-relevant, to be consumed, or recycled, thereby removing all evidence that any humans ever existed...

Got any other ''bright'' ideas?...

I have lots of bright ideas, but I feel they will be wasted on certain people that lack imagination and will not entertain anything outside of their closed mind.

Ever hear of SCI-FI?

There is a difference between an idea and speculation or prediction about a future possibility.

Based on history, the worst that can happen usually does.

Pessimists are seldom disappointed.

They'll never be able to keep the software in sync with the hardware in terms of speed.... Unless machines start programming themselves! Then again there's a such thing as a self-fulfilling prophecy--people can continue to dumb themselves down if they want.

Re: Computer/Brain Interface

Actually, if ground crew(s) of (interneted) workbots were first placed on a moon, to use a local reality, for the purpose of constructing an inhabitable complex on, and/or under, the surface, before humans arrive to see to its further operations, including, but not limited to, mining, processing, fabricating, assembly, etc., extracting oxegen, hydrogen, water, etc., to conserve a limited air supply, and building a remotely operated nuclear power plant (including it's own nuclear waste containment annex), and further, along side all that, conduct more detailed exploration, scientific study/analysis, experimentation, etc., in conjunction with building an astronomic observatory minimally affected by atmosphere, and expanding the installation to support further exploration of the galaxy, etc., the time delay factor could be managed because the workbots would not become impatient waiting for ''e-guidance'' to deal with whatever situation arose...

... or, are pessimists actually realists who (fantasists ?) try to discredit?...

You make a good point. Rigorous psychological testing I would certainly be called for in order to avoid certain attitudes and outlooks that would obviously be detrimental to any symbiosis.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Borg and how that worked out for those poor "assimilated souls". Lots of neat enhancement, not so good looking... well, except for 7 of 9 and her looks improved with most enhancements removed. Remember Resistance is Futile...

Certainly.

It is a sorry man that can handle only one woman.

Just kidding.

At my age it would be like trying to shoot a game of eight ball with a rope.

I know all you young men will think it wont happen to you,but if you live long enough it will.

Time comes and takes away the cloudy vision, and the brain returns to it's rightful place.

(The reason they will not give Viagra to lawyers is it just makes them taller.)
