Microwave Reflection

11/16/2007 9:59 PM

I'm looking to calculate (and or eventually model, if possible) the reflection, refraction and diffusion patterns of microwaves in the spectrum of around 10-40 GHz. I'm trying to build a small array of flat panel uwave reflectors, and so I'll be mostly concerned with sheet steel, aluminium, plastic and fiberglass. Any formulas, tips, guidelines or rules of thumb would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Owwww tricky...

I hope you have a large budget for the test instruments you will need, as well as the time.

John.

Actually I was just hoping to get some methods and equations for calculating the RCS of an object and then doing the modeling and tests on the computer. Not 100% accurate i know, but it'll get me close enough for what I need. Out of the research I've done I know I have to use some of Maxwell's equations and there are a few others that I need to throw in the mix, but to get a roundabout figure it's pretty straightforward. I just can't seem to find anywhere that has the equations and the methods for using them...

I found a couple useful bits on making an antenna but it wasn't really what I was after... I'm looking for equations for calculating the reflection/refraction/absorption of microwaves interacting with a downrange object given the material, size and orientation of the object. Even if it's just a simple calculation for a simple flat bit I'm sure I can throw something together in AutoCAD with Lisp and put a bunch of flat bits together and figure something out that way. I don't need to build any part of the microwave transmitter or receiver (Not yet, anyway, I figure I have a bunch of computer modeling to do before I go and build the object, and then and only then will I worry about building a test rig...)
