Gasoline Mixup

11/26/2007 3:02 PM

I mistakenly mixed approx 4 gal. of fresh gasoline with approx 1 gal. of 50:1 2-cycle gas/oil mix. ok to use as straight gas in gas engines? any adverse affects?

Yes, it is okay to use in a 4-stroke gas engine. You may get some blue smoke out the exhaust as the oil burns (so do not use if you have to get your emissions checked soon), but the effect will be no worse than a leaking valve seal.

Won't hurt a thing in 4-cycle engine. At the low concentration you have I doubt you'll even get any excess smoke. A higher concentration might foul a plug but not in your case.

Cheers

What about affect on an oxygen sensor if one is present? Those are fairly sensitive. I don't know. Though if you put this into an almost full tank, or if you use it say a quarter at a time, it is the oil is at a low concentration.

Your Catalytic converter should prevent any blue smoke being seen if still working correctly.

Which is why a worn motor still looks great exhaust wise, till the cat cannot do the job anymore, eg its damaged and needs replacement.....the only way to know if an engine is worn is to watch oil usage.....if it is leaking a lot, you have no chance!!!

Another solution would be to add 4/50 gal. of 2-stroke oil to the mix and keep it as special fuel for the 2-stroke.

Wont hurt anything in a 4-cycle engine at that concentration. It may even be beneficial for a short run.

The next time you need to fill your car fuel tank, pour that mix in and add another 10 gallons or so. Diluted to that extent will make it a good upper valve lubricant. At least that is what you can keep telling yourself.
