Power Required To Drive

11/27/2007 4:50 AM

what should be the power of the motor required to drive a pump of capacity 7000m3/hr and the pressure difference is 5kg/cm2? The efficiency of the pump is 90%.

Convert the pressure to N/m2. Multiply by the flowrate. Divide by the efficiency. Divide by 3600sec/hr. Answer is in Watts. Done.

Hello PW - only thing I'd add to that is I'm sceptical about the 90 % pump efficiency. It's a big pump (~1200 kW) but even so 90 % is optimistic. Axial flow (propellor-type) pumps have good efficiency but I suspect 5 kg/cm2 is above their pressure range.

Cheers.....Codey
