The name itself is self explanatory. Relay is a electromagnetic switch. If you can make the operation of the relay as per your schedule called programme it is programmable rely. We can write suitable software programme to the required needs or parameters to make the computerised rely ( protection system) work , then it become a programmable rely.

There are also "Solid-State" relays, which do not rely on electromagnetism or mechanical moving parts.

These "Solid-State" relays are being used more often, and are in many cases now cheaper than the electro-mechanical type.

Perhaps you are thinking of PLC systems, which run on "Programmable Logic".

If you type into Mr. Google's fine Search Engine the words: programmable relay - you should find plenty of further information.

Please advise further, if you are able.....

dhiru, go to www.time-mark.com This is an American company but they have a wealth of information and diagrams on their site. It could be considered a learning tool. It will answer all your questions.

Good luck,

James

The entire class of device was born out of the original LOGO! made by Siemens. Since then, many other manufacturers have released similar products. They are relays that have a limited amount of intelligence built-in, along with a built-in means of programming, all for a very low price. So if you wanted a timer, it can be a timer. if you want a relay, it's a relay. If you want a relay and a time, it's still both at the same time.
