Timer Control for Heater

12/05/2007 6:19 AM

Hi,

I am looking to control the on-off timing for a 750W or 1000 W heating coil. The need is to have the heater on for 'x' minutes and off for 'y' minutes and this has to continue as programmed till it is switched off (where x and y are variable). This is for a domestic appliance running on 230V single phase. Can anyone suggest a proper circuit and device to accomplish this requirement? Thanks in advance.

Satish

chitwadqi, I just responded to another gentleman, go to www.time-mark.com . Look for the Model 300 programmable timer. It will cycle on and off as you require. It will operate on 24 - 240 VAC at 50 or 60 hertz.

Good luck,

James

Zelio smart relay ( Schneider Electric product ) will be perfect. SR2B121FU. Use the inbuilt flash timer and you can set your ON -OFF time. It also has a real time facility so that you can use real time (am/pm) to put it ON and OFF. You will have to use a 10 amps capacity relay/contactor between Zelio and the heater just to reduce load on Zelio contacts Good luck

Hi Satish,

You can use OMRON Solite-State Multi-functional Timer H3DE-M2 240 VAC.

Please describe more clearly about "progrmammed countinuously till it is switched off", you mean if "power off" and it will be programmed continuously when it has to remember previous timer status, you have to use programable logic controller. I think you must to reconsider your process for some minutes or hours power off.

Good luck.

Hope this will work for you: Thermal timer (bimetal type dearly relay) The thermal timer is a delay relay which has a delay time of on delay/off delay.
It operates within a range of 10~200 seconds, and it has an M contact (make contact) and B contact ( break contact).
(On delay time: Delay time after the heater carries the current)
(Off delay time: Delay time after the current to the heater is cut off)
Because bimetal is the principle of operation, it will naturally be influenced by the temperature change in summer or winter. A bimetal for outside air temperature compensation is provided in order to minimize such influence.
BF, BA, BH type etc. 54.5x32x26mm etc.

Feature:
•Both delay time and off delay time setting can be made by one thermal timer.
•While auto reset is the standard, manual reset type can be made upon your request.
•Any voltage of AC and DC can be accommodated. (Max. 250V)
•Contact capacity is available in 3A, 6A and 10A.
•Because of out side air compensation bimetal, operational time is the same for summer and winter.
•Anti vibration and anti shock characteristics are superior compared to other types of timers.
•Because all Matsuo thermal timers are housed in a dust free case, there is no contact error due to dust or other contaminants.
•The price is low compared to other type of timer.
•Because the B type has a sharp mechanism for repeated on/off, there is almost no noise observed.

Application:
·For the automatic operation of boilers, coolers, copy machines, freezers, etc.
·As a delay element of home appliances.
·For the cutting off and resetting of over current for the certain period of time.
·As an automatic control program timer for automated machinery and industrial machinery.
·As a cycle timer.
·Wattage controller (It controls the duty of current by changing the ON/OFF ratio of the current to the electric heater)

"It operates within a range of 10~200 seconds" ~ maximum 3.7 min.

If I need 20 min I have to 6 timers or ..............

And it is affected by environment temperature.
