Pickle Power

12/05/2007 8:17 AM

What is very unusual about the pickle is that is doesn't just cook. Within a short period of time, steam starts to escape out the sides and, amazingly, it starts to light up like a light bulb. Yes, you read that correctly. It emits light. Yellow light, to be specific. And the smell… Let's just say that the word bad does not describe the scent well enough!

Just think were tryin to go with solar when we could use pickles! :-P

Quote from article... "Seven researchers at Digital Computers did the first study in April of 1989. Their findings were just amazing. They concluded that Kosher dill pickles were the best because they had the highest salt content. Also, they determined that pickles would not make good light bulbs because they only gave off yellow light and that they smelled really, really bad. Duh! They published their results in a paper titled "Characterization of Organic Illumination Systems". There is nothing as effective as using big words in a publication title so that no one can understand it. (Do you think that they were trying to fool their bosses into thinking that they were performing serious science?)"

It apparently didn't occur to the author that Digital Computers (actually Digital Equipment Co., or DEC for short) is now defunct, having been bought by the lowly Compaq for a song, who was subsequently bought by HP. Maybe the fact that DEC's engineers spent time cooking pickles rather than designing the next VAX or PDP11 is what lead to their downfall.

Apparently there refering to sticking bare zip wire into both ends of the pickle and plugging it into a wall socket. We did this stuff as stupid kids not realizing what we could have done to ourselves. I don't care for hot dogs done this way either.

They do glow a nice yellow green.
