Recommendations For Reference Book On Motor Selection

12/06/2007 2:37 PM

I'm a mechanical engineer and I would like some recommendations for a good reference book to provide information on selecting electric motors and/or gear motors. I'm not looking for a motor for a specific application at this point just want to increase my knowledge on the subject. Thanks in advance.

Hi, you may have looked, but start with www.baldor.com , Support section. I recommend troubleshooting Electric Motors, 3rd edition, ISBN 0-8269-1787-9, ATP, American Technical Publishers, www.go2atp.com. That should be a start.

Don't tell anyone, but I'm paid to get the conversation started. It should take off now.

Good luck,

James

Hello carguy1948,

You could try McGraw Hill:

Marks' Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers (10th Edition)
Edited by: Avallone, E.A.; Baumeister, T., III © 1996 McGraw-Hill | Title Details | Citation | Ordering Info

Fully updated to reflect current industry standards and practices, this edition of the classic handbook known simply as "Marks" offers more than 100 essential mechanical engineering topics - from the mechanics of solids and fluids to machine elements, from electrical and electronics engineering to environmental control, and from industrial engineering to instruments and controls.

I bought one of the "Golden Edition" of the above, back in 1968. Absolutely chock full of interesting information.

Also try "Electrical Engineers Handbook" McGraw Hill (Another excellent Reference Book).

Kind Regards.....
