04/27/2022 3:53 AM

Hello

I'm considering the Odyssey Performance AGM battery but it's $100 more than the Duralast Platinum AGM battery. What are your thoughts?

is there anyone can help me? Many thanks.

At the moment, simply that <...the Odyssey Performance AGM battery...> is <...$100 more than the Duralast Platinum AGM battery...>, and that the currency denomination varies in value across the globe.

Please describe the technical problem rather than the commercial one. CR4 is not best suited to commercial considerations.

The best way to determine the best product is to compare the get out / put in values of

different products or sources .

If get out A / putin A is bigger than get out B / put in B then A is the better product.

To put it differently if A is twice the price than B A should last more than twice the time.

Search for :Odyssey AGM vs Duralast AGM which is better?

Opinions are free here. Facts, come with research.

Good luck.

After much research on finding the best value for my money in golf cart batteries,I developed a general rule of thumb that seems to apply across the board:The heavier the battery, the better the battery in terms of energy .

AGM batteries are better than liquid electrolyte type, and are used in many commercial back up systems. They can handle deep charge /recharge cycles. The AGM can take vibration a lot better, and do not sulfate as readily. Here is a link on the Odyssey batteries. You must select the physical size and terminal polarity location(Group number)

https://www.odysseybattery.com/performance-series-battery-specifications/

Duralast is made by Odyssey, just in a different case, but they may or may not be the same quality.

Companies are always struggling to get to the top of the pack,so things can change quickly.

For my golf cart,I found that Interstate was the best choice at the time.

Of course, with any lead acid battery,it is important to not let it go totally dead before recharging, unlike NiCad batteries. To do so damages the battery ,and causes increased sulphation of the battery.

Here is a link from a a consumer to a review from Consumer reports on batteries.

My best advice,is to do a thorough research via google and go from there.

I’ve seen a lot of mixed experiences with Duralast batteries, and honestly, most of the problems people run into aren’t always about the brand itself. In many cases, it comes down to how the battery is used, stored, or charged rather than a pure manufacturing defect.

A few common issues I’ve noticed from similar discussions and real-world use:

  • Short lifespan often happens when the battery is repeatedly deep-discharged or used in vehicles that sit idle for long periods.
  • Sudden failure can be related to heat exposure, vibration, or inconsistent charging systems rather than the battery alone.
  • Swelling or overheating complaints usually point to storage or environmental conditions, especially with modern battery chemistries.

One thing that doesn’t get talked about enough is storage and safety practices, especially if batteries are kept as spares, stored in garages, or used in commercial or industrial settings. Temperature control, ventilation, and proper handling make a big difference in long-term performance and safety.

If anyone here is dealing with recurring battery issues or managing batteries beyond normal vehicle use, it’s worth understanding proper storage and safety guidelines. I found this resource helpful for explaining safe handling and storage considerations without hype or brand bias:

The economic cost of the batery over the lofetime of the priject is more important than the price.

The intended use of the battery should be analysed and known before choosing a battery.
