the large corporate farms with outside investors… yes,… but not for every farm.

I have yet to see all the videos, I don’t know if it’s addressed, but the biggest drawback I see would be soil compaction…

the other item,… how do there test the horse power… normally it was through test from Nebraska Tractor Test for either drawbar HP or PTO HP

the technology is pretty cool.

They claim to reduce compaction because of the wide stance, and they also have tracks for these beasts...These machines are electric, diesel powered generators, but eventually fuel cell powered...

It isn't so much as stance, as is the footprint that contacts the ground in lbs/in2. I didn't see the actual numbers, or comparison as to existing farm equipment and soil types.

on new ‘processes?’ As this… it’s takes a long time for it to accepted.

I mentioned in another post that sort of off-topic, but is the reasoning. My brother who is a dairy farmer (main income) is putting in robotic milkers. And robotic milkers have been around since the 70’s. But the technology has caught up to where it’s worth the price, even for a small 70 cow herd… and that’s where a lot of these robots are being install. There’s another reason for that.

and this may be no different, with the exception of being accepted. With that I mean,… bugs worked out, and the price drops.

I can’t believe of not only the price of new but also used tractors are these days, or farm equipment in general.

Well as you can see here this combine harvester has two tracks but they're close together, so they leave two tracks with each pass...

The new design has the tracks so wide they can reuse one path twice each time leaving half as many tracks across the field...plus it's just one machine with all the attachments switchable, so instead of have 4 or 5 machines, you just have one with different attachments....plus the diesel engines run at a constant speed reducing emissions and saving fuel...plus the wheels can be turned sideways so it can drive down a regular street...

Soybean head, wheat and oats, corn head.

of course with internal adjustments

by the way, have you ever seen one that got stuck in the mud combining corn. With the head all the way raised and it’s still buried…

Well let's see you got your tiller, your planter, your harvester, your mower and bailer, and your sprayer....I'm not much of a farmer that's the only ones I can think of...I guess it depends on what you're growing...damned expensive I know that much...

couple of things here…
It does depend on the crops you grow on the equipment you need.

Some crops, you need weight and traction, such a tillage, planting you don’t want to compact your soil, and that the same with harvest… when the weather could be wet.

Above all, and this rings true, having a piece of equipment that’s a ‘Jack of all Trade, is a master of none.’

IMHO: The next step is to eliminate the driver. With GPS,and embedded magnets in the soil, there will be no need for an operator. Each machine will have a internal map of the farm and row layout.Accumulative errors will be prevented by checkpoints also embedded deep in the soil. They already have this technology in factories for moving materials.Soon it will be implemented in farms. The power supply for these machines is always advancing, probably ending in fusion reactors somewhere in the distant future. Why make multiple passes over a field when you could gang several functions into one? Perhaps a disk,or plow behind the harvester, and a planter behind that,so everything is done in one pass.I know this would not work on every crop or farm, but some crops and climates can yield year round production. Satellites can also control the distribution of fertilizer, putting the right amount to the right spots on the land.No more stunted growth at the end of rows. Now all we need is an impossible dream:World Peace, but that wont happen as long as there are Farts(pardon the pun)that keep the world from cooperating.

Actual, satellite GPS, and it depends whose satellite it uses for GPS, my nephew who farms with his dad, bought a crop sprayer with GPS. Your spray with a 60’ boom, it’s shows on the screen the path you take. You just have to establish the boundary’s of the field. Also the good part of it. It’s shows the area where you sprayed.

the Autosteer feature is great, takes a lot of strain off the driver.

and if you run out of spray, or have to leave the field for something. When you return, you can pull up the field on the computer and start where you left off.

interesting thing about the GPS. The GPS used were off of Russian Satellites. Very accurate.

and last year, not so much. The accuracy drop considerable, and when my nephew looked into it. The contract with the Russian satelites expired and replaced with U.S. GPS satellites. And since the military restricts/limits the accuracy for civilian use, that was the reason why accuracy dropped.

What is the possibility of remote computer operation and control by AI and deep learning?

As a rule of thumb,it take about 2 combustion engine hp to produce 1 electric horsepower,so each diesel will yield about half of it's rated hp to the electric motors.

There are many losses from that point onward also.

This is exclusive of other losses in the process, but at any rate,it boils down to overall efficiency, not hp,but cost per hectare to get the job done.

Usually,the bigger the better.

HP is just a number used for the selling point or thumbnail comparisons.

"Where the rubber meets to road" is more important,or in this case the soil.

Well I think most tractors are diesel/hydraulically powered, and if I read this right it takes over 2hp electric to make 1hp hydraulic....now from a dependability and maintenance cost standpoint, well we have to see I guess....

Based on my experience,hydraulic/pneumatic is more durable in applications that require frequent stop-start cycles.

Frequent cycling of pneumatic devices actually cools them, and hydraulics maintain a more even temperature because of the cooling effect of the oil.

For sustained operation, electrics are better, but not for constant short cycling.

Heat kills electric motors, and damage is accumulative. Starting heats up the electric motors a lot more than running under load.

When used in the right application, electrics can give many years of trouble free service, likewise, hydraulics,so it all depends on many factors.

Are you calling us fat?… because the truth hurts for a lot of Americans that are hyper-sensitive about the truth, and they hold grudges…
