Change control systems

01/04/2023 6:19 AM

What software based change control systems are you using? We currently use a system called QCBD from CAMA Software which replaced our previous paper based system but we are not completely happy with it.

We need to control & track changes to drawings, procedures & product specifications. The system needs to record the approval process & the implementation of any changes. What are people currently using & are you happy with the way it works?

I’ve used ProCore, where it can do overlays of drawing revisions for comparing revisions.

pit also logs in and records your stakeholders, tracks emails, and downloads and informs the stakeholders of updates.

It avoids customers claiming they never received it. You can also monitor the down loads.

My company is transitioning from an in-house, custom-built SQL/Oracle server based information system for engineering (ISE) database and associated applications to Siemens Teamcenter. Our ISE system was deployed shortly after I hired on with the company in '96 and the company is upgrading to an integrated system that will work with the rest of the Siemens products like NX, Expedition (Mentor Graphics), Zuken, etc.

I'm certain in an enterprise like ours, there will be significant learning curves and pain along the way just like when we transitioned from vellum, aperture cards, microfiche, and paper to the SQL server system 26 years ago. ( . . . and we finally got used to using it, now we change it.)

Oh, I forgot to mention that this is all part of the Digital Transformation which is the latest mandatory buzzword that you have to use when you are upgrading your computing systems which we have been doing continuously for the last forty years.

Ahh... the joys of scratching ink lines off of vellum drawing sheets, a distant memory now. I will be sure to include "Digital Transformation" in any report I write to show how trendy I am.

I too wonder why during an upgrade they have to change all of the keystrokes that previously existed on menu driven applications. It then requires another memorization muscle memory to become proficient at it.

I realize keyboard input is becoming obsolete, and brain control will eventually be the norm.

IMHO:

The companies already have the next ten years of releases on file, and will release them when they are finished milking the current herd of cattle (consumers).

Don't feed the cattle too much, keep them consuming and everything is right with the world. Just dribble it out and keep the milk coming.

Read the Vultures' Picnic. The same applies to all industries as well as oil,I think.

I'm a big fan of Dilbert, I have the calendar & a couple of pictures on the wall. There seems to be a cartoon for every situation & they are startlingly accurate.

I imagine the latest development in fighter jets is unmanned, with G forces that are not survivable by humans. The pilot will be in a remote location, flying virtually.

They do that now with drones, but at a lower level.

Sci-Fi always seems to be a glimpse into the future.
