Instantaneous Relay for Railway Applications

11/30/2023 3:36 PM

Hi All

I am searching for a supplier that may have shorter lead times than what I have been quoted for instantaneous relays.

We are supplying a traction substation for a metro project. In our scope there is an emergency stop device which will be integrated with SCADA. The spec calls for instantaneous relays for railway applications. We have found them but with a 40 week lead time.

I kindly ask if anyone knows of a supplier who may have these in stock or on short delivery. We are looking for the following:

2 ea. Mors Smitt (or equivalent) N.S1-L-24-12.0.8
2 ea. Mors Smitt (or equivalent) N.S1-P-24-12.0.8

Any lead is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tito

That is strange - according Mors Smitt , this relay is a vital relay from their signalling line, so it is interesting that it is specified for a traction substation.

"The N.S1-L-24-12.0.8 24 VDC instantaneous electro-mechanical vital relay is a track side safety relay for the signalling railway market. It is a dual module «plug-in relay» with positive mechanical keying, equipped with 12 normally open contacts and 8 normally closed contacts."

I would suggest that you contact signalling equipment manufacturers for equivalents, such Siemens, Bombardier, Alstom, etc.

Alternatively, ask the client if they have alternate suppliers, assuming that they have other similar installations. Or get their formal approval for a similar but non-vital relay (that will be about 10 times cheaper as well!), especially if the rest of the circuit contains non-vital components.
