Slow Firestick

08/12/2024 8:31 AM

I have 2 fire sticks and both have become very slow.It takes an inordinate amount of time to even load the home page, and when viewing, there are many stops, hesitations, glitches.I have checked my cable connection, all good. Router speed(5gig) and signal strength is good, cleared all cache on all programs, eliminated all programs not in use.Powered down and restarted the fire stick and router.Still a couple of gig left on sticks.Updated fire stick software, which was already at the most recent version.

All other non-Fire Stick programs function normally,'Net,Dish, etc.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

It has been trouble free for the last 10 years.Just can't get anything that will last anymore.

10 years isn’t bad,… i bought a smart 65” Samsung smart tv, and 3 months after the one year warranty expired, so went so did the tv… it was the back light issues, i later found out that there easy to replace… yourself.

i had all Samsung tv, in one of the rooms, i had a 53” Samsung smart tv and after 2 years, it started to go retarded… it no longer supported you tube apps… but the tv was strong… and after 12 years… the picture went…

now i have an LG,… which i found out used to be Zenth… “the quality goes in, before the name goes on” so far so good…

every time i travel for an extended period of time, I’d end up buying a 42” or 48” LG, basically, after the new models come out, i can get it for less than $300.

I'm running out of bedrooms for the TV’s. , I can’t believe how much the big screen tvs dropped in price.

Probably in the servers, maybe hacked or a bug got in...nothing you can do on your end if that's the case, just wait it out...

I only use my FireStick in hotels when I travel. I last used it about 2 weeks ago. It seemed fine then. I would guess it is about 4 years old.

The two fire sticks if continuously used for than 5 years may now need to be retired and/or replaced...

Typically as I experienced, the fire stick's memory do accumulate too much junk that if not regularly flushed or reformatted becomes sluggish and troublesome... similar to an old PC with an antiquated OS.

Problem solved. One Firestick was bad, dragging the other one down,I eliminated the problem and will order a replacement for the bad one.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Process of elimination.I had already tried changing positions of the sticks, still same problem. When I left the problem stick disconnected, the other one worked fine. When connected, both acted screwy. The good one was slowed down by the bad one.It may have been using a lot of bandwidth or putting out a lot of noise and slowed both down.

I took it apart and ensured that none of the buttons were stuck or dirty and holding closed and that they did function when pressed.

Trashed the bad one and ordered a new one.

Meanwhile,everything is working fine.

True that is the simplest solution, and normally I would have tried that first, but it seemed to be intermittent, clearing up while I was looking for the problem swapping Sticks around. It only became apparent when I left the offending stick unplugged all night and the problem disappeared.Perhaps it was cooling down while I was carrying it between rooms.A temperature sensitive failure perhaps.
