Unless you have an active phase control you cannot do this. They call it synchronization. If they get out of phase the currnmt from one flows into the other.

google it.

Be careful with the word alternator, it is also used to describe AC generators that have rectifying and control circuits in them for supplying DC. Car alternators for example.

Please describe the alternator type(s) first and detail the problem more carefully.

If you meant 3 phase Alternators:-

If you link two running 3 phase generators without using the proper syncing equipment and methods, it is possible that one (or both) generators and their prime movers will be torn from their mountings and sort of "flung around" eg. a major catastrophe......it is not something that you want to do!!!!!!

Currents can flow that far exceed the possible currents that could be generated and huge magnetic forces will maybe try and instantly stop one generator and or double the speed suddenly of the others as they try to "Sync" with each other....

If this was only a theoretical question, you now know the possible physical effects....

A resultant fire would be considered a minor effect!!!

More information required for even a general or reasonable answer, expand the problem please so you can get us all involved.

Guest has completely forgotten either where he posted his question or even "if"!!!!

I'm off, byeeeee

Looks like a homework question where the lecturer didn't know the answer either...

As far as I remember from my school lessons, it is not a simple matter of synchronizing the two generators to parallel them.

One must take into accont the load thais being fed and the droop of each generating set.

The two(or more) generators must run at definite synchronizing conditions(voltage, frequency and angle) and the adequate droop por each generating set, in order to avoid circulating currents.

Please take a look at Woodward or Neyrpic governors to clarify the matter.

Regards
