measurement of swg

dear all friend,

pls give me ideal to understand of measurement unit SWG let say their ask for quotation size of chain link fencing mesh no 10 S.W.G and strenght of straining wire No 8 S.W.G. reading in what unit example meaning 8 and 10 mm or inch

The Internet Search Engines are a great help.

Mr Google showed me a useful website in under a second.

Refer to the Wire Tables here:

http://mdmetric.com/tech/wiregage.htm

Note that there is both UK SWG and US SWG.

Select Gauge Number from the number in the left hand column.

I assume you are able to read off the table, horizontally along the particular Gauge No. for the particular Standard you want.

Examples:

  1. No. 8 SWG is 4.064mm diameter.
  2. No. 10 SWG is 3.251mm diameter.

For straining: Contact the manufacturer, as various tensile strength wires are used, and you need the specific tension/tensile strength for the actual wire Brand/Specification you are using.
