Determination of sintering temperature

01/06/2008 1:27 AM

Hi, i would like to know got any research about sintering process on particle reinforced metal matrix composite? I would like to know where can i find that research because i'm conducting a research about particle reinforced metal matrix composite which matrix is Aluminium using sintering process. I would like to know the suitable temperature for Al in sintering process. Thank you very much for your valuable opinion..

1- try google there are many papers on it

2- take care to reduce the oxide layer

3- good luck

Aluminium powder oxidizes in air and the oxide prevents sinterinh.

If you derive your Al powder envacuo and mixi with another metal, in theory you can do it as long as the two metals will interdiffuse.

Hi, She!

The answer depends on the composite components. When I Googled your question, hoping to find a simple answer re temperatures, method, oxidation, etc., I got a lot of responses that depended upon the composite being sintered.

If the attempt is to create an exotic mix that is not yet covered by patent protection, you might find it difficult to get assistance without giving the game away. Perhaps you should apply for a provisional patent first, where you can describe the end product without having to detail the processes until the actual patent application is made.

This will have the effect of giving you one year to share your details with and seek support from CR4 members.

I'm in the same position. In month or two I plan to apply for a provisional patent on a carbon nanotube adhesive I invented and a novel high strength composite.

she: Having been involved in producing solid rings of a brazing alloy powder for making joints between stainless steel sheets and tubes for heat exhangers it will be a trial and error process.

I would suggest a closely controlled temperature tunnel furnace, with a helium atmosphere, a speed controlled stainless steel continuous loop transport belt. Slabs of graphite with recesses can act as repositories for the metal matrix while being heated and cooled.
