Here in Texas we call it bob wahr, and we buy it in big rolls and consider it a maintenaince item, requiring constant monitoring ("'Been out riding fences, for so long, now'") and replacement. Specification of the product is a trivial factor.

For defense, as opposed to simple fence, purposes, the product is called razor wire. There are spec grades for the product, but the need for monitoring and maintenance is presumibly even higher.

End analysis? Makes no damn difference. Buy Kleenex grade and replace more often, or get the Rolls Royce version, M&M is going to be your biggest cost.

Fundamentally, would you prefer the hamburger be made BEFORE or AFTER the demise of the bovine?

Barbed wire can be used as a livestock barrier- cheap & effective, not so sharp as to do any real damage to the animals. used to top chainlink fences for security.

Razor wire is really sharp. If you look @ the link I provided earlier you'll see that it can be coiled & be self supporting for higher levels of security. Coiled razor wire is much harder for people to climb through or cut.

I'll argue the damage a little. I still have scars from making fence and pulling about 40 foot too tight. It broke at the far end and whipped my back pretty good. But razor wire would have probably skinned me.

Barbed wire was used extensively during WWI. It was used to entangle and slow up attacking soldiers so they could more easily be shot to death. If it wasn't so unsightly and didn't cause rememberance of WWI, I think it would be making a comeback on the Mexican US Border. Certainly would be less expensive than the fencing costs I've been hearing about. Maybe it is time it came in bright colors, or was combined with festive lights.

Now there's a thought - migrant farm workers carrying bangalores.

Select rimmed steel and galvanize it after manufacturing.
