Thanks for the help!

01/21/2008 9:54 PM

I ernestly contacted you people out of the helplessness I feel over my son using pot.

I asked this company a question that I must know the answer to in order to load myself down with information as to my sons problem. I do not see any reason for not getting an answer that will set me at ease.

Thanks for nothing, tipical in America running from the truth.

I have searched for your original question regarding your son. I searched using your user name Judith Ostergard . I assume you posted as 'guest'?

Anyway I could not find it. This may not be the very best forum for your question. However, I will boldly speak on behalf of what should be considered the majority of regular contributors. So far I have not once, never seen an honest question go unanswered with the sensitivity, compassion or empathy deserving of a person in need.

Furthermore many of if not all at one time or another have expressed themselves based on the personal experiences of all sorts. Even at times to the point of surprising humility and even embarassment.

So. If your question did in fact go unanswered, and you feel that the men and women of this forum have valuable input then I strongly encourage you to re-post.

And finally. My name is Charles. I work with men and women in the Austin (Texas) area who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. People of all ages and all backgrounds. I will gladly speak with you via e-mail (c_rummel3@yahoo.com) or through the private mail system of CR4. Regardless of where you are located in the world I have contact information for you and or your family. Just contact me.

Regards,

Charles R Rummel III

I am so sorry that your post was not answered! I have only found this post by accident.

I can sympathize with you as we have had a similar problem with our son. We emigrated to Oz from the UK when our son was only 15. That was five years ago. Within three days of us arriving in this foreign land, our son was introduced to drugs (its a down side to a better climate) and from then on, it got a lot worse.

I can't tell you that I have a miracle cure and, at the moment, there is no happy ending although it is sort of resolving itself. What I can tell you is born from bitter experience which should still be relevant at your location.

I appreciate that you will not have the 'insider knowledge' to deal with this by yourself so, please feel free to contact me through my mailbox at CR4 and, through that, I will give you my email address.

Do it today, you haven't a second to loose! I will get straight back to you (time zones permitting)!

<.....I asked this company a question that I must know the answer to....>

Er, which company was that (CR4 is an Engineering forum, not a company)?

<....I do not see any reason for not getting an answer that will set me at ease....>

Using double negatives can make a sentence difficult to understand. Nevertheless:

  • One of the possibilities is that no correspondent actually knows the answer to the question.
  • Another possibility is that the question hasn't been running long enough for an answer to emerge.
  • A third possibility is that the structure and phrasing of the question is such that no correpsonedent feels like replying to it.

<... America....>

How abstruse. This forum has contributors from Belgium, Germany, Jordan, Phillipines, Britain, South Africa, China, etc, etc. as well as the Americas.

<...Thanks for nothing....>

OK. Goodbye and thank you for popping in.

PW, I have watched your replys to very complex engineering problems and I know you to be very good.

However, not withstanding the fact that I also don't know why this person posted at an engineering site, they are, nonetheless desperate for an answer! Many times, we answer questions based on our experiences of life. This might have to be one of those times!

No offence intended mate!

If I remember correctly the original question was posted in Bio med and related to drinking distilled water in a effort to mask evidence of pot smoking.. I looked around, but I guess the OP was redacted...

There were several answers to the question, some with useful bio information, but most of them said that this is an engineering forum and there are better places to get information on drug abuse issues..

So joining Charlie...

Judith, I also am involved with helping people with addiction issues. If you live in the greater Houston area I can refer you to several places here that can help. If you do not live in Houston I will find you resources where ever you live. Contact me my clicking on my name above and sending me a message.

If you are looking for addiction help or medical advice you shouldn't be berating folks on an ENGINEERING site for not answering your question. While some seem to have experience with the topic, you're best bet is to go to an addiction clinic or call a doctor. Medical problems are best handled by doctors, noit engineers, and certainly not via a forum. If you care about your son seek a doctor or addiction specialist, don't troll internet forums.

When you have a difficult problem, and looking round for a solution, it is natural to ask those that you respect. The situation attracts a negative response, but good advice from those she feels she can trust I think will go a long way.

I have been in your position and understand your helplessness and frustration. Many young people think certain drugs won't harm them and they can "handle it". While on these drugs they are apt to make even dumber assumptions and decisions to try other drugs. This takes one step after another until they get so wrapped up in what they are doing, that even a heroin overdose does not give them a wake up call.

My son is extremely bright but can no longer function in a social or business situation with adults. Heroin has caused him to revert to childish talk or actions when faced with stressfull or complex problems. He has been on methadone for about three years and is just now starting to get his life back together. He is 26 years old, lives at home and has just starting to get an associates degree in IT. He regrets everything he has done. He realizes now that all the help and counseling we gave him was for his own good but explains that when he was using he couldn't care less. His only concern was when he could get high next. He wrecked several cars just to get to a dealer and get another fix. Prison did not straighten him out either. We turned him in to his probation officer several times resulting in incarceration and extended time. It's sad to say that the only time we felt he was safe and not using was when he was in prison. He saw people killed over drugs and this did not deter him. Only now does he look back and see how his life was wasted. He wishes he had never started, but knows that it cannot happen.

Don't give up on your son and don't enable him to continue using. Get him help now or regret it later. Tell him he is a fool to put his job, health and welfare in jeopardy just to use an illegal substance. Most hard users did not start out on heroin or crack or what have you. Huffing, pot or pills to be cool leads to other things.

Take it from me, your life and your son's will only become a living hell if you don't warn him now. Not all pot smokers become hard users, but the facts and tales of reformed drug users say otherwise.

Hopefully your son will take your advice and give it up.

Take care and good luck.

I believe my answer was one of those which did not put you at ease. The question appeared to be about masking drug use with distilled water and I responded to that. I am sympathetic to a mother's concern about her son's drug problem, but I do not want to work around anyone on drugs and I did not want to assist anyone in fooling pee tests.

This is an engineering/technical forum and many of us are hard-nosed, blunt, and irreverent. I apologize if I hurt your feelings; that was not my intent.
