Frequency Generator

01/22/2008 2:40 AM

Which is the better method for generating frequency in the range of 20 Hz to 20 KHz for output voltage range of 5 to 24v........?

please suggest me a simple circuit

<....Which is the better method ...>

Please describe the two methods under consideration, for review and comment.

Hello ramdaskalam

Cheapest method is a variable frequency oscillator, which supplies an audio amplifier, the output of which is connected to an audio "line transformer", which normally runs at 100 volts audio on the secondary.

Voltage of the output is easily varied, using the volume control of the audio amplifier.

You ask for a "Simple Circuit", but the circuitry is far from simple, and beyond the ability of CR4 Forum to show the circuit diagram for the complete unit, or even for each of the 3 sub-assemblies.

Have a look around the Internet:

Use search terms (Note that there are 3 separate Searches:

1. Audio Generator Circuit

2. Audio Power Amplifier Circuit

3. 100 Volt Line transformer audio Circuit

Once you have located what you need, it is a matter of making up the units and connecting them together, carefully, of course.

Hope that assists you, Kind Regards....

How about a 555 timer chip free running to give a pulse output...

You don't say what waveform you need, what impedance or frequency stability or anything!!

So, there is no simple circuit for you as you haven't described what you want.

John.

Hello again Guest,

Advise the following please:

  1. Power required of Audio output = Should be equal or greater than (2) below.
  2. Power required for PLC Input = Should be equal or lesser than (1) above.
  3. Waveform of Output:
  • Square
  • Triangular
  • Sine
  • Other - Advise please

If you advise input requirements for your PLC unit, it may be possible to assist you.

If you do not know what you want, or unable to describe what you have already, it is very difficult to read your mind, or see through your eyes.

That's why more information is needed, to help you.

Reply please, with....

Kind Regards....

NEED FREQUENCY GENERATOR CIRCUIT :

INPUT TO CIRCUIT :24VDC 14.6A supply from PLC pannel

OUTPUT freq :20 Hz to 200KHz

OUTPUT voltage :5v DC

OUTPUT current : Min. 4ma--Max 30ma

I am planning to make a simulator circuit which simulates pulses from flowmeters, photoswitches etc.for PLC High Speed Counter module for testing purpose ....

................please provide me a simple circuit

Dear Ramdaskalam,

On this forum we exchange info, give hints to people, like you, who need a "setting into coordinates".

In the link that I provided, it was the chip that generates, at a very low price, sine, rectangular and triangular waves, in the range that you needed. If you search the place you might find application notes that gives you nice circuits with, maybe, even the printed circuit board drawing.

If you still want me to take care of the problem, contact me, and I will make you a quote for consulting or/and manufacturing such circuit.

Or, start an auction in order to get the best pricing (there are a lot of good engineers on this forum).
