Manufacturer of densitometer needed

01/30/2008 3:53 PM

Ladies and gents, I am looking for a manufacturer of an in-line densitometer to measure the density of a water and/or aqueous gel+sand slurry. I would prefer a non-radiographic type as I do not want to deal with the potential radiation issues. The unit will be in a NEC Class 1 Division 2 location.

So far, Google has not been my friend.

It will be 3"-4" outlet from a Centrifugal pump operating at about 60 psi.

Most of the radiographic ones use about 3 curies of C90 which is more than enough to ruin your whole day if mishandled or damaged. While we have a number of them already in use in our company, we would really prefer to move to something like a Coriolis flowmeter for this. There are safety, training, and NRC licensing issues we would really prefer to avoid. There is also the issue of recalibration as the source decays and the wall thickness erodes. Also this is a sand slurry and therefore very abrasive. the wall thickness will be changing as time wears on. We'll probably start with a heavy wall for wear/erosion reasons even though the pressure does not require it.
